Meet Our Team

Key executives, consultants, hi-tech development and testing facilities with appropriate experience are in place to supervise and insure the success of Sharps MD. Sharps MD Franchise Group, Inc. has an active participating board of directors.


President

Gerald Hubbell

President

Mr. Hubbell started his career as a licensed funeral director who worked for the family funeral home and crematory. In the early 1990's the family decided to add medical waste disposal services to other funeral home clients in the Tampa Bay area that used our crematory services. After overwhelming success the family purchased an adjacent five acres to the crematory and designed and built a continuous feed incinerator. Mr. Hubbell held various jobs in the company that were critical to the growth. He is an expert in both incineration and autoclave treatment technologies which were later added to meet the demand of the healthcare sector throughout central Florida.

Mr. Hubbell has a wide range of experience that includes regulations, permitting, transportation, sales, management and budget evaluations among an in depth knowledge of the industry. Mr. Hubbell served as President of the company from 2004 until it was sold in 2007 to Stericycle (SCRI). Mr. Hubbell still owns Hubbell Funeral Home with his family. He is also a member of the Belleair Rotary Club and a graduate of Leadership Pinellas, class of 2010. He earned his degree in Morturay Sciences in 1992 from Miami-Dade Community College and a degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida in 1995.

Vice President

Jerry Theophilopoulos graduated from Eckerd College in 1990 with a B.A. degree in International Business. In 1995, Jerry graduated with Honors from the University of Miami School of Law (Cum Laude Honors). While at the University of Miami, he was selected as a member of the Moot Court Board for his oral advocacy skills. While in law school he also studied at the University of Florida College of Law for one semester where he earned Dean's List Honors and also studied at Stetson College of Law for one year where he earned Honors. While at Stetson College of Law, Jerry was awarded the Paul Barnard Award for Clinical Excellence in his trial works with the Public Defender's Clinic. Jerry worked at the Public Defender's Office in Pinellas County from 1995 through 2000 and in 1999 he was awarded the Trial Attorney of the Year Award.

Jerry is very active in his community and he has served as a Board of Director for St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Tarpon Springs, Florida as well as the Tarpon Springs Boys and Girls Club. As the attorney for the West Florida Confederation of Clubs, North Florida Confederation of Clubs and the South Florida Confederation of Clubs, Jerry is instrumental in protecting the rights of motorcyclists throughout not only Florida, but also the United States. He is also a lifetime member of the motorcycle rights group known as ABATE.

Jerry concentrates his practice in the areas of Personal Injury (both Automobile and Motorcycles) and in Federal and State Criminal Law. He has in excess of 100 jury trials in our Courts in the State of Florida. Jerry is licensed to practice law in all State Courts in Florida as well as the U.S. Middle District Court, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Jerry is a member of the Florida Justice, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American Association of Justice, the Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Richard Truesdale

Chief Compliance Officer

Mr. Truesdale is an engineer by education with B.S and M.S. degrees in Ceramic Engineering from Alfred University, Alfred, New York. He graduated cum laude and is a member of Keramos Honorary Ceramic Engineering Society and was awarded the American L egion Bronze Medal for leadership. He was a member of the Board of Trustees at Alfred University for nine (9) years. Offered a Regular Army Commission after being first in Basic Training 82nd Airborne, Fort Bragg, NC. He was chief engineer of Zircoa, Inc. and subsequently formed Truesdale, Lynch and Associates, Inc. a financial consulting firm. His engineering and other accomplishments were published in "Outstanding Young Men of America".

He became a successful Financial and Investment consultant and subsequently achieved numerous successes as a business entrepreneur. He formed numerous corporations and partnerships including the development and management of real estate. These included high-rise condominiums, hotels, life-care facilities, apartments and land development. Mr. Truesdale became interested in the control of discarded hypodermic needles and syringes when he was involved in an incident while walking on the beach. Since then he has made it his endeavor to reduce accidental needlesticks. In 1994, with the purpose of developing and marketing economical and effective needle destruction technology he formed BioQuip, Inc. and later Innovative Medical Equipment, Inc. for the purpose of developing the Zapper® hypodermic needle destroyer for which he has several patents. Mr. Truesdale has 30 years' experience in the medical waste industry, high temperature chemistry and incineration.

Robert Symanski

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Symanski graduated from Indiana University Northwest in 1979. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), partner, Symanski & McKnight, PA. As a partner in Symanski & McKnight, P.A. CPA’s he has worked with projects specializing in business consulting and tax services.

Mr. Symanski has served on various Boards including: Value Adjustment Board, Pinellas County, Director Academie Da Vinci, Charter School, Past Board and Officer Roles: Vice Chairman, Old Harbor Bank, Dunedin Chamber, Largo Chamber, Springtime Kiwanis, Suncoast FICPA, Clearwater Fundamental Advisory, Treasurer, John Morroni State Representative, Treasurer, Judge Jack St. Arnold, Treasurer, Judge Linda Allen, Treasurer, Judge Keith Meyer, Treasurer, Judge James Stearns.

Basile Pertsas

Mr. Pertsas has been one of the chief architects of the SharpsSoft Medical Waste Software package. Bill has been our chief executive officer and director since our inception on June 30, 2010 as well as director and vice president of Purple Can since 2014. He has been the Manager of Sharps MD Franchise Group since Its inception on July 25, 2012. He has also been the president and director of Waste Alliance since in June 2012 as well as the director, vice president and chief technical office rmost recently of our affiliate, Yard Dog Software, in Tarpon Springs, Florida since September 2012.

He joined Sharps MD Incorporated (our predecessor) in July 2010 and served as Vice President of Operations until March 2011, when he became chief executive officer. He continued in his role as chief executive officer following the merger of Sharps MD Incorporated into Waste Alliance, Incorated on August 17, 2012. From 2009 to 2010, he was a Sales Manager for Hurricane, Inc. in Largo, Florida. In the early Dot Com era beginning in 1995, Basile collaborated, designed and engineered the first web-based software for the automotive collision repair industry developing a chassis with a unibody structure with dimensions to automatically adjust based on machine type and model which was soon thereafter adapted by Nascar.


Director of Digital Marketing

Kimberly Santoro

Director of Web Software Engineering & Digital Marketing

Ms. Santoro graduated from Eastern University, St. Davids, Pennsylvania, with a B.S. degree in Biochemistry and obtained an A.S. in Engineering Science at MontCo in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. She has more than 7 years of experience in digital marketing, web development and full stack programming. She has collaborated on various back-end management systems including content management, client management, customer relationsm, API integrations and communication interfaces. These projects based on PHP in conjunction with various other web development technologies HTML, CSS, jQuery, AJAX, JSON, MySQL and Oracle SQL. She is certified in Google AdWords 100, 200, & 300. As an entreprenuer herself, she founded and developed a commercial flooring company in Pennsylvania during her last year of college and grew it to be self-sustaining until she forfeited her interest in the company to pursue a career that was more suited her passions, technology and the sciences.

Outside Consultants

Outside consultants have been used in the development of the company and its products. Sharps MD will continue to use the services of consultants in areas of specific expertise such as product design and manufacturing strategies, when required. Some consultants are or may also be shareholders in, or managers of, the company. The company will provide more details about such arrangements upon request.
